nd - 5th June

Highlights on 2nd June included 4 Collared Dove at Holland House, 2 Little Tern seen going south down the Links, 1 Snow Bunting remained at the top of the Links, 1 Grey Wagtail at Hooking, a Black Redstart at the obs, and a year tick of Greenshank was seen on Ancum.

rd started slowly with just a Spotted Flycatcher and Willow Warbler seen at Holland House before noon but things soon picked up after lunch with a fairly late Whitethroat seen at the obs, and a year tick of Icterine Warbler found skulking in the Upper Linnay garden. A Short-eared Owl was seen coming through the island first at Hooking, before heading out towards Sanday over Brides. Our second Red-breasted Flycatcher of the spring was found just before dinner in the Dennishill garden.

th was a fairly exciting day with 9 Common Scoter being seen early on in Nouster bay, and a Spotted Flycatcher was trapped and ringed in Holland garden. 5 Grey Plover were seen on the rocks just off the Beacon and 2 very smart summer plumage Black-throated Diver were on the sea off Neven. Just before lunch the highlight of the day was found in a mist net in Holland garden in the form of a stunning sub-adult male Golden Oriole. The bird then roamed the island, being seen subsequently at Howartoft, Holland, Ancum and Westness. Elsewhere there was a Black Redstart at Westness, and the Crossbill trapped a few days ago suddenly reappeared at the school.

th was a much quieter affair, with 2 Spotted Flycatcher being trapped in Holland in the morning, a Black Redstart on Torness, another Spotted Flycatcher at the obs, and the Crossbill remained at the School. The 2 Little Stint were also seen again on Ancum.
