4th April

Not a bad day, largely overcast with a brisk ENE wind eventually swinging round into the east and dropping slightly in the afternoon when there was a brief spell of light rain; the trickle of typical early spring migrants continued without becoming too busy as totals included 80 Meadow Pipits, 34 Pied Wagtails, 5 Dunnocks, 29 Robins (by far the highest count of the year so far), 4 Stonechats, 8 Wheatears, 52 Blackbirds, 3 Song Thrush, 28 Redwing, 2 Chiffchaffs, 5 Goldcrests, 6 Chaffinches, the overdue first Brambling of the year, a Siskin and 5 Snow Buntings.

Other bits included 3 Herons, 3 Pink-footed Geese still, the drake Green-winged Teal still on Gretchen, 2 Merlin, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, the 2 Woodpigeons and 34 Linnets.
