24th July

13 black-tailed godwit accompanied 9 bar-tailed godwit in recently cut silage fields near Vincoin, 3 knot were on Bewan Loch and a total of 53 dunlin scattered around the island was a good count. The kestrel was still present being seen near the Post Office, and new migrants included 2 swifts over Dennis Head and 3 crossbill south over Holland. The highlight of the day was the discovery of a female and 2 juvenile garganey on Gretchen Loch. A drake was seen on Hooking Loch on three occasions though May, and it would seem likely that todays sighting suggests they have bred on the island.
20 storm petrels were trapped at last nights stormie session.
