8th July

As is typical of July the majority of interest was provided by waders, most notable of which were 2 adult little stints. Golden plover numbers had increased to 609 and turnstone to 180, and a flock of 22 purple sandpiper were the first returning birds. Elsewhere on the island were 4 whimbrel, 11 dunlin and singles of green sandpiper and knot at Westness. Other sightings included 2 red-throated divers, 15 crossbill, a grey wagtail over Sangar and 713 arctic terns including 7 first summer birds at Bewan.
A morning seawatch produced 9 manx shearwater, 25 storm petrels, 128 fulmar, 235 auk sp., 28 gannet and a merlin went out north.
