4th July

The day began with 2 crossbills seen feeding on dandelions at Cott and a house martin over the south of the island. Light south easterly winds encouraged a steady trickle of 76 curlews and 3 bar-tailed godwit passing overhead. A minumum of 3 green sandpiper toured the island with 2 flushed from Kirbist Mire and a single at Westness. Also at Westness were 2 dunlin, and a ruff roosting amongst Golden Plovers. Yesterdays Woodpigeon was still present.
