26th March

A wet and windy day with the strong SW winds bringing long periods of drizzly rain and low cloud; the days highlights comprised the first Sandwich Tern of the year fishing in Nouster and a 2cy Glaucous Gull which flew through as folks were twitching the Tern.   With two new volunteers now finding their feet coverage was good despite the difficult weather and totals from across the island included 7 Great-northern Divers, the 5 Mute Swans, the drake Green-winged Teal still on Gretchen, 4 Pintail, 22 Tufted Ducks, 15 Long-tailed Duck, 9 Red-breasted Mergansers, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, 92 Skylark, 4 Linnets, 30 Twite, a Common Redpoll and 4 Reed Buntings.
