22nd October
Very strong winds throughout
the day with a dryish start before heavy, persistent, driving rain moved in by
late morning effectively ending the fieldwork; there were a few little bits
unearthed before the rains came with the Great Grey Shrike at Holland, the Green-winged Teal still on Gretchen, a juvenile Dark-bellied Brent
Goose which
flew south down The Links, a female Common Scoter off The Links and a late,
lingering Whinchat still near South Gravity. Other birds across the land included a Hen
Harrier, a Kestrel, a Pied Wagtail, 3 Robins, 6 Song Thrush, 79 Redwing, a
Chiffchaff, 13 Chaffinches, 42 Brambling and 8 Snow Buntings.
Also of note were 3 Red-throated Divers, 3
Great-northern Divers, a Heron and 16 Whooper Swans.
