25th October
A much nicer day with
lighter WNW winds, wet in the morning with plenty of showers sweeping across
the island but a drier and brighter afternoon; a handful of new birds dug up
included a 1st winter Yellow Wagtail at
Trolla (one of the western races) and a Common Redpoll at Senness along with
the Great Grey Shrike still and the Green-winged Teal again on Gretchen.
Other migrants across the island included 3 Hen
Harriers, single Kestrel and Merlin, a Short-eared Owl, 46 Meadow Pipits, 23
Rock Pipits, a Pied Wagtail, a Dunnock, 11 Robins, 3 Wheatears, 270 Redwing, 17
Chaffinches, 44 Brambling, 8 Twite, a Lapland Bunting and 34 Snow Buntings.
Also of note were 4 Long-tailed Ducks, 7 Red-breasted
Mergansers, 5 Jack Snipe and 230 Snipe.
