1st April
An inauspiciously birdless and chilly start to April brought no discernible signs of migration at all. The Grey Plover, both the usual Iceland Gulls and a couple of Wheatears were the best of the lingering birds, although good numbers of the common wildfowl and waders were still around.
A few small groups of Redwings are still dotted around the island. Those that have been caught for ringing have included both iliacus birds from the European mainland and some of the larger, darker Icelandic breeding subspecies coburni.
