Bright, with a moderate southerly wind in the morning but
the wind steadily picked up through the day to become very strong by the
evening bringing some heavy rain; new birds continue to trickle in but with no
large-scale arrivals yet. Migrant totals
included a Great Skua, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3 Woodpigeon, 115 Skylarks,
80 Meadow Pipits, 25 Pied Wagtails, a Robin, 4 Wheatears, 18 Redwings (the
first small arrival of the spring – Thrush passage has been non-existent this
spring so far), 2 Chiffchaffs. 2 Goldcrests, a Jackdaw and 38 Linnets.
Other
birds of note comprised 3 Pink-footed Geese, the Green-winged Teal still, 12 Shoveler, a Hen
Harrier and 2 Water Rails.
Golden Plovers are starting to look [more] beautiful
