17th July
A minimum of 9 crossbills around the island were new in, with 7 at Greenwall and 2 at Holland, with presumably 5 of these birds coming in to the Holland linnet roost late evening. Elsewhere a good count of 53 dunlin, a single knot at Westness and a large flock of 190 knot flew over East. 5 purple sandpipers were by the pier.
In the early afternoon attempts were made to ring chicks of the Twingness tysties, with an encouraging 34 chicks ringed.
The first 2 sooty shearwaters of the spring passed the north end early morning, and an hours seawatch in the evening tallied up 6 manx shearwater and 164 storm petrels.
